my work.

This section highlights my work as both a journalist and researcher in the arts. My articles, published in The Poly Post and beyond, explore the cultural significance of music and the voices of artists who shape our communities. My senior project extends this commitment by examining the Western classical music scene and history through a blend of scholarship and storytelling. Together, these works reflect my dedication to making music and culture accessible, relevant, and thoughtfully represented.

Classical Music is Dying

Inclusivity, Elitism, and Gen Z: Classical Music’s Need for a Renaissance in the Concert Space

Don’t worry! I actually don’t think classical music is dying. However, I do believe there are barriers within the classical music scene that limit its full potential for audience engagement. As part of completing my music degree, I conducted a research project examining the elitist associations of classical music. I interviewed over 100 students across three Southern California colleges to learn about their first impressions of classical music and live performances, and I spoke with professionals in the United States and the United Kingdom working in various areas of the field. Drawing from these perspectives, I developed solutions and recommendations to increase audience engagement and broaden outreach beyond the “usual” audiences.
